Martine before and after

About a year ago, I started my fitness journey. I decided to do so for many reasons. I wanted to be more healthy and active. I also wanted to feel great when I go clothes shopping and when I look in the mirror.
It hasn’t been easy, so now I want to encourage women who are on this journey because I know how it feels. I know how hard it gets! However, when you start to see the little changes, it boosts your confidence.

My highest weight: 243 pounds
Current weight: 176 pounds
My next goal: 150 pounds

What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
So many times, I wanted to give. Then, I would remember the times I cried because I was so unhappy in my skin. I didn’t give up because getting healthy was extremely important to me.

I also found out that I had severe sleep apnea. The doctor said that losing weight would greatly help with that…which it did 🙂

I found inspiration in women that were on their fitness journeys. I kept myself motivated with the idea of how I would feel down the line.

How did you change your eating habits?
At first, I started to reduced my portions and just cleaned up my eating in general. I cut out fried food and high sugar foods. I gave Herbalife a try because I hated eating early in the morning, and a shake was a great idea. Later, I started doing research (i.e., saving Pinterest pins, following people that are into fitness and seeing how they eat…) There is so much free information on the Internet, so I took advantage!

What did your workout routine consist of?
At first, I did a lot of cardio because I used to be one of those people who thought weight training would make me bulky, but that’s so wrong! I know that now.

What really helped me was dance classes like Zumba. Dancing motivated me to move because of the great music and the ambiance. I also am a Netflix addict, so I would watch a show while working out on one of the machines. You don’t even feel the time pass!

What is your height?
I’m 5’2″.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is NOT TO COMPARE! Our bodies are different, and our levels are different. Your journey is yours. I made the mistake of letting myself be depressed because my journey wasn’t as fast or wasn’t as big as another person’s. The thing is you do not know what others are doing!

What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
I’d say I have four on top of my list: First, you have to WANT it! We say we want to change, or we want results, but we do nothing to actually see those changes. Don’t be mad because you don’t see results when you didn’t put the work for them.

Second, PLAN, PLAN, and PLAN! Even when you are super motivated, you’re going to have to days where you’re down. DO IT ANYWAY! Plan out your meals. Plan the time for your workouts and write notes as reminders.

And lastly, love yourself through the journey. You’re doing this because you want to feel great. Love yourself each and every step of the way. You’re changing, and by loving yourself, you want to do more. You’ll see the results, and you’ll want to keep going! Love the process.
